I think typically they are mounted on threaded rod stubs that protrude from the ceiling. I have never really studied our ceiling, is it concrete, wood framing, other? it is annoying to install threaded concrete anchors into a ceiling but doable. Perhaps there is some wood framing or something up there to make things easier. I know WAYS to install stuff to ceilings, what I don't know is if there is any code requirement for how it is done.

sweet. I only have one concern: are those hard to mount? I'm wary
that they're very difficult to safely install. Does anyone have
experience mounting them in a non-datacenter environment? (read:
old building with questionable ceilings)
Sorry for the short notice - I'll be traveling for the 4th
holiday.

Tonight is Network Cleanup Night. We're not going to do
anything crazy -
just remove anything that looks very bad to an inspector. This
includes

* Removing dangling Cat-5 from around the space
* Taking down the rack from it's perch up high
* Making sure the rack electrical is sweet and clean.
* Reinstalling enough equipment to make teh internets.

I'll be in the space around 7pm. If you would like to come
help, that'd
be great.

As the reboot progresses, there will be two more major tasks:

1) Reconfigure the network hardware, replacing anything that
is going
bad, and improving documentation. I anticipate this to take 4
hours.

2) Run new cat-5 in the space, properly. This will probably
take about
12 man-hours.
* Run proper cable trays or just correctly supported
semi-permanent
bundles
* Provide sufficient network drops throughout the space.

Task 2 is going to be tricky, and will need a lot of work. I
am
tentatively scheduling it for Saturday, July 26th. Please
consider
helping if you are able.
