Yes! 

Many signals have sometimes been thrown out at artifacts when actually they
are pointing to very interesting phenomena.


slow Cortical Potentials are one example.


I was informed that these were in many cases considered to be from body
movements that are irrelevant to the test and screened out as side noise.


 


Some new studies (and old) , have shown that many of these Slow Cortical
Potentials are indicators of interesting things and was like throwing the
baby out with the bathwater type analogy.

The induced artifact from photic stim cable being close to an EEG lead is
very different from induced brainwaves.

The artifact is very spikey, whereas induced brainwaves are sinewave in
appearance.
