Will they give an outsider permission to come fix their stuff? Or are
you trying to do this all covert-style? <br>
For this kind of setup I would suggest<br>
1. Boot from Ubuntu Live CDs - less worry about maintenance, viruses,
may work without building owner's approval.<br>
2. Run traffic shaping on the router to make sure everybody gets a
slice. An open source firmware like openwrt or ddwrt can do that.<br>

i live at the altamont hotel, which is government subsidized housing
located around the corner from the original noisebridge weise alley
location. the altamont hotel is intended to be housing for formerly
homeless persons, and as such provides relatively decent housing for
folks ranging from the historically displaced to the dual-diagnosed to
the elderly and to the disabled. the building is owned by a non-profit
and run by a for-profit management company which are both corrupt and
grossly negligent. the management provides computers in the lobby and
wi-fi, but both can be hit-or-miss dysfunctional. i'd like to be shown
how to keep these things working, but i lack the expertise. any takers?<br>
