Typing gopher://blah into your browser actually has nothing to do with the web, it's just that some "web" browsers also support the gopher protocol (<meta charset="utf-8"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gopher_(protocol)#Gopher_support_in_Web_browsers">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gopher_(protocol)#Gopher_support_in_Web_browsers</a>)<div>
