I wasn't by any means implying that we should use Google Groups, only that, being that I use it for a variety of other mailing lists and enjoy the features it provides, it makes a great example of what works well, both as forum and mailing list.  I think having the ability to hack on something of our own would be excellent, though, I have to agree with Josh's sentiments about politics and drama.<br>

<div><br></div><div>The brilliant things about mailing lists are: 1) they're active, so oddities get noticed immediately 2) everyone has a complete archive of the list (if they so choose), and 3) everyone gets to choose their own interface to them.</div>
