i'm relatively new to the space (started back in Oct. 2010), but have been showing up more consistently in the past 2 months or so (esp. at night). just recently (within the last couple of weeks) there's been a huge difference in the energy at noisebridge. it's really great!

perhaps one way to ensure there's a consistent amount of quality (in the people) is to have some kind of "bar". i'm thinking analogous to how the greek system in universities have a rush where applicants have to prove they want to belong and meet the bar. it wouldn't have to be extreme or anything (thank you sir may i have another) but more like you have to complete at least one project within a certain period of time ... and help improve the space in some physically noticeable way ... etc. etc. we'd have to come up with a bunch of criteria that make sense.

what i'm getting at here is that there doesn't seem to be any kind of bar. so with the flood gates wide open it's kind of tough to not allow ANYONE to just walk right in. if that's a requirement that we allow anyone to come into the space, we could do that thru hosting "public" nights where anyone can come by (think frat parties).

i do see the need to do something about the "quality issue". if it's not addressed noisebridge will dwindle and not meet it's full potential. i think we can all agree we don't want to see that happen.

"Care extra special hard" is not a solution. We've had these problems
in oscillation since we moved into our current digs; and I believe
they're a structural problem caused by the interaction of our scale
and our government system. I'm tired of this nonsense. I'd like to fix
it.

That's the question I'm asking the existing membership; are we willing
to actually change the structure of noisebridge?

There've been many proposals put forth. Is there will to make them
happen? do we have even rough consensus that we want to?
