<html><head></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; ">Will-<div><br></div><div>The response I've gotten from the Noisebridge community thus far has been quite positive. Many folks have emailed me and are excited about the event.</div><div><br></div><div>Our event on Sunday won't be much of a discussion of experiences, though fostering discussion between consciousness seekers is one of our organizations many goals. Sunday's lecture will be given by an amazing researcher, lecturer, Ph.D, and anthropologist, and will analyze the public debate, regulation, and context of Ayahuasca use from an anthropological perspective.</div><div><br></div><div>Noisebridge already has many non-"technie" sciences- we have a mycology (mushroom) lab, a sewing group, and people working on hacking everything from our political system to art and tech. I feel psychedelics are at a nexus of all this! It's undeniable the role consciousness study plays in art, science, and technology. Furthermore, Ayahuasca is traditionally a form of medicine, albeit not modern medicine. It is however, expanding globally, and the scientific community is taking note. For instance, MAPS (<a href="http://maps.org">maps.org</a>) had a psychedelic science conference last December, at which our first meetup took place. And many amazing scientists (including the one who is coming to talk on Sunday) spoke to an audience of several hundred folks.</div><div><br></div><div>Psychedelics can be attributed to many advances in science. To list just a few:</div><div><ul class="MailOutline"><li>PCR, or Polymerase Chain Reaction, an incredibly important scientific process around DNA replication, was discovered by Kary Mullis who is quoted saying, "What if I had not taken LSD ever; would I have still invented PCR?" He replied, "I don't know. I doubt it. I seriously doubt it."</li><li>Crick, of Watson and Crick, the scientists who identified the DNA molecule is quoted as saying how profound a role psychedelics played in his life and science.</li><li>The personal computer revolution has had a lot of psychedelic users- there's an old quote in geek culture about these early days, "There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX."</li></ul><div><br></div></div><div>The Buddhist Center, and other similar spiritually minded organizations are appropriate for some kinds of talks. But our talk Sunday has very little to do with spirituality. We intensionally choose Noisebridge (after I had a discussion with Mitch), as we thought it'd be a great match. We're also planning a future meetup about psychedelic mushrooms.</div><div><br></div><div>If you'd like to talk about this more, please reach out.</div><div><br></div><div>Warm regards,</div><div>Daniel</div><div><br><div>
