Love to second Al Lasher's, they are pretty helpful/friendly, and I've found their prices on a lot of components to be rather comparable to internet-prices (shipping included, and assuming you aren't ordering 3 billion resistors at once or something).

Most of their stuff is behind-the-counter though, so you'll have to interact with the store staff.

On Mon, Oct 15, 2012 at 11:11 AM, Rachel McConnell <rachel@xtreme.com> wrote:
And Jameco lets you order online and then pick up your order in person I think sometimes the same day. You can't browse IRL though. http://www.jameco.com/

I know techshop has a little store attached to their operation, it
might be less of a rip off than radio shack.
Further afield there is HSC (Lawrence Caltrain), could always organize
a field trip with friends...
Aside from Radio Shack, where do people go in this town to buy hook-up wire, solder, barrel plugs, crimp housings, battery holders et al? I think Radio Shack probably has everything I want, but if there's somewhere with a better range (accessible by public transport) I'll give that a go first.
Cheers, Robert.
