<p dir="ltr">That's not really true. There's only one formal advantage to being a member: Members are allowed to block consensus.</p>
<p dir="ltr">There are many informal benefits to being a member. You are allowed to bitch about having space on the member shelves. You're given door codes without much review. You feel better about yourself.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Nothing would ever get done if just anybody was allowed to come in and block the fragile consensus process.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Since NB tries to be as open as possible, it would also be against a lot of what NB stands for to deny people benefits just because they can't get voted in or afford membership.<br>
