that to be a reply to my message?

If so, my response is that if I were a paying member, then I would
be able to afford to have the tools and materials at my home in
lieu of being a paying member. The benefit of being part of the
Noisebridge community would be what would sway me to be a member,
not the materials. As it stands, I'm mostly a lurker on this
mailing list, and rarely present at the space (I've been there
twice).

To put it another way, the only reason I would pay to be a member
would be to have an environment to share my ideas and learn from
others.
If I frequented the space as anything but a paying member, then I
personally would be doubly grateful for having a space and
material to work for free and people to socialize with.

As it stands, I do happen to do most of my hacking at home,
because of the disinterest I've observed within the space and on
this list.
they are very similar to Noisebridge in that they are
entirely member funded, have no "professionals" running the

their members than having an entire kitchen. I'd much
rather see the kitchen go and have some cafe-coffee place
like the one you suggest. Even if it's just pay what you
can for self-serve, on your honor coffee. The idea works
really well and the kitchen really pollutes the space in my
opinion. How does this sound?

So one of the primary complaints that people
have about NB is that you
can't get work done without people coming up to
you and asking you
tons of questions about what you're doing.

I think this is a result of the fact that many
of the events that
introduce people to the space are learning-type
events (CHM, other
classes etc), and as such people tend to
(initially, at least) think
of NB as a learning environment.

nb-as-learning-space and
nb-as-getting-shit-done-space are not
entirely opposed but do have some opposing
features, so I think we
should keep that in mind and come to a conscious
decision on how we
want to balance the two.
