<div dir="ltr">0. Yes, people rifling stuff in the space who are obviously not working on a project of some kind is always a problem, full stop. People leaving messes are a problem, full stop. <div><br></div><div>1 and 2. Member shelves should be a locked resource. Many other hackerspaces i've been in that has members-only access also has member spaces (shelves, lockers) that *lock* or that one can put locks on. the lockers in place of storage cubbies are a decent idea BUT we should be giving at least that much respect to storage space paid for by members. If i am paying money to a space, and i am going to store my project there, i should have a guarantee that my stuff is going to be safe. </div>
<div><br></div><div>With regards to the stuff that is there already, many of the shelves belong to people whose membership has lapsed or who are out of the country or otherwise not coming to the space. this is what should be done:</div>
<div><br></div><div>- Each member should be identified and contact info found</div><div>- Each member should be contacted and informed that the member shelf construct is being changed for safety reasons and that if they wish to claim their stuff, they should do so immediately, but in the meantime, each member's shelf contents will be safely boxed up and cold-stored until such time as the member chooses to claim it or directs someone else to handle it.</div>
<div>- There should be a small controlled group owning and directing the member area renovation, and every person in that group should be named and contact info given, both in the emails to members with shelves, and generally around the event of the renovation.</div>
<div>- Appropriate lockers should be obtained. I imagine we can get these used from craigslist, or some kind of materials reclamation place in oakland, or from a store liquidation, or something similar. We know enough people with zipcar memberships or who know a person with a truck (i know at least 2 people with trucks). </div>
<div>- Member shelf contents should be removed and stored safely and conscientiously, and lockers set up. </div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Thu, May 8, 2014 at 10:09 AM, rachel lyra hospodar <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:rachelyra@gmail.com" target="_blank">rachelyra@gmail.com</a>></span> wrote:<br>

#0 - is this a Problem? [I'd say so, yes.]<br>

Is it actually relevant that this was a non-member? In what way would<br>
the issue be different if they were Members?<br>

Why has this been going on for "a couple weeks or longer" and we're<br>
only hearing about it on the list buried in a completely irrelevant<br>
thread?<br>
