[Noisebridge-board] Fwd: urgent non-profit taxes

Hey folks,

I got a response about our taxes from these folks. They also offer to
deal with any late penalties that the IRS tries to charge us. They
were recommended by Mark Halpert, an accountant who was recommended by
Jeff at last week's meeting.

They would bill us $875. Wish I knew what we'd paid the tax ninja last
year because I don't really know how expensive that is. But since
we're looking at a couple hundred dollars in IRS fees, this offer gets
better every day!

I'll be hosting a friend from out of town tomorrow so I'd like to skip
the meeting unless people think we should talk about this again...

Kelly:

Yes, we can prepare the Federal and California tax returns for
Noisebridge.  I have attached our proposed engagement letter.

We specialize in providing audit and tax services to nonprofit 501c3
organizations.  Some of our clients include:

·         Public Library of Science

·         Zeum (now re-branded to the Children’s Creativity Museum)

·         California Historical Society

·         San Francisco Chanticleer

·         San Francisco Performances

·         Smuin Ballet

·         Stern  Grove Festival Association

Please review our engagement letter and, if acceptable, sign and
return to our office.  We will prepare the tax returns as soon as we
receive the information from you, which should include:

1.        Copy of Quickbooks data file (send via www.yousendit.com, a
free ftp file transfer service)

2.       List of Board members (names and positions)

3.       List (names and addresses) of donors who, during the FYE
12-31-10), contributed $5,000 or more to Noisebridge

4.       List (names and addresses) of any grants paid by Noisebridge
during the FYE 12-31-10 (of any dollar amount – if any)

Please let me know if you have any questions.  We look forward to
working with you.  By the way, we can respond to the IRS if they send
a letter seeking penalties.  We have a very good track record at
getting such penalties waived.  Be sure to send us any correspondence
you may receive from them.

Hi, I'm the treasurer for Noisebridge (https://www.noisebridge.net), a
chaotic, creative, and volunteer-run hackerspace in San Francisco.
Through a combination of confusion and poor customer service, we're
now looking for a new tax accountant AND scrambling to get our 2010
taxes done ASAP, as we missed the extension deadline.

Are you available for quick turn-around (and probably very simple)
non-profit taxes? We have historically just filed a 990, and I have
the necessary info and financial reports ready. If you could give me a
rough quote at your earliest convenience I'd appreciate it.
