[Noisebridge-board] Hackathon Venue

Sounds like a very cool project!

You might have better luck with somewhere like UCSF or even a private high
school but they will want a lot of really solid plans, especially to host
minors overnight.

I can't see Noisebridge doing this - we strongly discourage sleeping at
Noisebridge at any time -- and while we could handle 80-100 people for a
brief workshop or maybe even an afternoon, a whole day or weekend doesn't
seem possible to me for a bunch of reasons.

One that immediately comes to mind, is that, that many people generate a
lot of garbage and we don't have the capacity to deal with it.

Another reason, we also don't have actual staff to keep the space open for
a large group for a long time period.

Another is that it is pretty dirty and basic in the space. LIke very grimy
with a dusty concrete floor. You would really not want to sleep there!

That many people together would need some sort of safety considerations.
(Safety in general; safety from each other (think sexual assult - it
happens) Saftey from adult creepers. You would need some plans for that
level of safety.

Noise. Literal noise! At any point, people may be using very loud
equipment, like table saws (and a giant shop-vac that hoses up the sawdust)
and the huge laser cutter. They aren't in different rooms. So the space is
often very loud. For limited times we can always ask people not to use the
louder equipment for a few hours. But for a whole weekend, it would not
work.

What about trying to find people buddies for the actual sleeping somewhere
part, and then try to find a venue to assemble for hackathon times (Maybe
even moving locations from day to day?)

Best

Liz
