I think a darkroom is a great addition.  The plan as sketched seems a
little intrusive due to the amount of space it consumes in that corner
(thereby making the hallway even more claustrophobic than it already
was), and the plumbing costs are non-zero -- Scott estimates materials
at $200.

As long as there's still enough space for a wheelchair or 40" dolly to
get through I don't see a problem with the layout, if absolutely
necessary we can cant the corner of the darkroom in a bit.

I would prefer not to go through consensus process for $200 and I think
we should Just Do It.  I'm in for $50, who else can help cover the
additional cost?
