more info re sprinklers and the possibility of
floor-to-ceiling walls around a fabmatlab shop area.
a link re fire sprinkler types:
http://www.fireproductsearch.com/categories.asp?category_id=184&parent_id=135&category_type=
a pdf for sprinklers for the miami airport
notes a general 130 square foot coverage area
for each sprinkler and a maximum distance of
12 feet between sprinkler heads.
it also mentions "nfpa". i do not include
a related link in this email.
an nfpa list of standards:
http://www.nfpa.org/aboutthecodes/list_of_codes_and_standards.asp?cookie_test=1
you gotta be a registered member to see it; i
don't want to register with this org at this time.
this pdf mentions sprinkler location but
references nfpa 13 and manufacturers' specs.
www.wbdg.org/ccb/DOD/UFGS/UFGS%2021%2021%2000.pdf
this pdf tells how great it is to have
sprinklers and has a few good notes about
blocking sprinklers (nothing stacked within 18
inches of the sprinkler heads, don't let the
painters get paint on the sprinkler heads...):
www.compliance.gov/forms-pubs/.../fastfacts_firesprinkler.pdf
from wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_sprinkler_system
scroll down to the design section. seems possible
to extrapolate coverage from
"design density would be 0.1 US gallons per minute (6.3×10−6 m3/s) per 1
square foot (0.093 m2) or a minimum of 150 US gallons per minute (0.0095
m3/s) applied over the 1,500-square-foot (140 m2) design area."
the idea would be: where ever the shop is
ultimately located, assuming floor-to-ceiling
walls, calculate what the "coverage" would and
also should be within the enclosed space,
figuring sprinklers as-is.
that's it for me for now.
