I've never had any problems with international checked luggage even when
my bags were fairly full of LEDs, power supplies, etc.  They frequently
open the bags, but stuff that's just wires and circuits is generally
fine.

You should not pack lots of batteries, of course, since they actually
are dangerous, and they show up on the x-ray.  But regularly installed
batteries in cameras or whatever are generally fine.

As long as the x-ray says "lots of wires and circuits" the inspection
probably won't be a problem.  It's "wires plus mysterious substances"
that's a problem.

Now, I always make sure that SFO is my international segment -- I've had
much MUCH worse experiences with customs/inspections in other US
airports, including IAH and EWR.  I realize it's a bit late for most
people to be thinking about that ... :)
