So in December at 31C3, during a gathering of a group now known as the
Queer Feminist Geeks, there was discussion of having a village run by
this group. I was asked if Noisebridge would be interested in being a
part of that, and I said most likely yes. I subscribed to their mailing
list and didn't get anymore emails about it since then.
Fast forward to the last week.
It sounds like Noisebridge would like its own village area thing. After
chatting with Casey a bit, we're thinking of having a generalized
village for anyone with any hacker space in the local area, possibly
even as far down as LA. Casey came up wit ha good name, The Bear Flag
Republic. I also threw in Sutro Republic, but eh.
Fast forward to the current hour.
Realized I hadn't actually subscribed to the Queer Feminist Geeks
mailing list. Did that and saw through the archives that they've already
begun planning out a village. I just emailed them a virtual olive branch
thing, stating that Noisebridge is in full support of them running a
village, it might be a bit too far gone to combined forces, but maybe
becoming neighbors might be the right thing to do.
I'm now waiting to hear back from them.
So as it stands we will either be our own village, or potentially merge
some aspects with the Queer Feminist Geeks group. We will have this
figured out before the village submission deadline by the 20th of this
month.
Thanks.
