An antenna for 144 Mhz? Should be simple to build from an SO-239
chassis-mount or similar, as previously discussed.

Yep, 50ohm is usually right. I would go with RG-8x or RG-58, I think.
I'd throw down for this, but probably not until next month.

We could setup a couple HTs and play around on repeaters.

I don't think it's needed, but it's nice. A slight impedance mismatch
will limit your real ERP slightly, but for 2m.... meh.
