You are mostly right. According to Part 97: Sec. 97.509 (Administering VE requirements)

Section : (j) When the examinee does not score a passing grade on an examination element, the administering VEs must return the application document to the examinee and inform the examinee of the grade.

So if you fail, we can tell you that you failed and by how many... But we can't tell you how well you did if you passed.

 Generally, we have the person sit in the seat that they used for taking the test while we grade them, when we're ready to give them the (hopefully) good news, we have them sit by the last of the 3 VEs that is assigned the position of giving the CSCE to the candidate.

Often we will let them re-try the test, and because of this we don't tell them which ones they got wrong until the 2nd attempt.
