[CQ] Getting one's emergency stuff together, motivated by this morning's earthquake

Yes, getting back on the air before the next big disaster is a good
thing to do. Consider these tasks:
1. Be sure you can take care of yourself and your family. That means
having emergency food, water, a water filter, etc. Watch out for
rip-offs, some of the less expensive emergency food kits would not
perform as advertised.
2. What are you going to do for emergency power? I have both mobile and
base solar panels.
3. Get the rig working both in the base/portable, and in your car.
4. Join your local ARES/RACES group. In Oakland that's ORCA
(http://www.ww6or.com/), in Berkeley, NALCO
(http://nalco-ares-races.org/). Get trained.
5. Put together a "go kit" so that you can deploy to help provide
emergency services, and support yourself on location. Keep it packed,
and where you can get at it quickly.
