Continuing its mission to identify, classify, document and promote better
understanding of robot types and their relationship to human forms, the
Robot Identification Institute will be open to the public for the month of
November. The temporary office will be located at 21 Grand, an
interdisciplinary art space located in Oakland California. The office, under
the leadership of its Founder and Executive Director, Eliot K Daughtry, will
take reports, provide alerts about unusual robot activity, and expand the
Robot Taxonomy.

The RII will also debut new bas-relief art works as a new exhibition in our
space! These carved panels represent different robots taken from the classes
of the taxonomy.

The public is invited to:

• add to the robot taxonomy at the office
• file reports on unusual robot phenomena
• enter information into the online robot taxonomy
• pick up alert notices for Uncanny Valley activity in your area

The Taxonomy: Robots from Human to AI

Have you ever found yourself confused about how many different kinds of
robots there are? Whether a Replicant is related to a Dalek, or if the
Motoman knows Bishop? Why do so many robots look like humans in the movies,
but giant machine arms in a factory? The Robot Taxonomy Project provides a
framework that explores a spectrum of robots that moves from embodied to
disembodied constructions. The Robot Taxonomy uses four major classes and
numerous subclasses to provide a guide to help understand different kinds of
robots, their stories and uses. The Robot Identification Institute: The RII
is the research unit of the Uncanny Valley Authority (UVA), concerned with
phenomena affecting the Uncanny Valley concerning robots, their
representation, and the proliferation of objects that are called robots.

The Uncanny Valley Authority:

Interceding where conditions allow machines to become alive, the Uncanny
Valley Authority provides retrieval, rehabilitation, and recuperation for
systems found within its provenance. Handling abandoned, outmoded and
unpredicted manifestations of anthropomorphized forms, the UVA maintains a
network of facilities to transition its charges into useful, productive
entities. Whether a system is captured wild, surrendered by a user, or
remands itself into custody, the UVA remakes each as a uniform, updated
system, ready to serve new purposes.
