and UC Berkeley, who there ... ?

Analog/mixed signal CMOS IC design, PhD, check.

Check ... I want to pilot planes myself, though, maybe go chase flying
watercoolers, eventually, which puts limits on my modesty.

Can you point me in the right direction to find them? 

I even find it difficult to approach the folks close by here in San
Diego; it seems to me that I'd have to chew through a mountain, if
you'll excuse my Dutch, of red tape to get into a position I can
actually do stuff AND share it with those who deserve it - which would
be you folks. It actually looks like I could be getting somewhere useful
in San Diego now.

I'm trying to get the best of both worlds, but San Diego may indeed be
an inconveniently far distance from noisebridge, which, in some sense,
is the center of the universe for me right now.

Is there a practical way to join forces with you while staying San
Diego?
Alternatively, I'd need a practical way to support myself in a position
closer to 2169 Mission that does not prevent me to do what I'm best at
STRICTLY for fun.

Jean Rintoul, for example, is probably, by quite some margin, the
hottest chick at noisebridge (I'm speaking from the perspective of EEG
hacking, of course), but she's engaged with folks who want to keep the
best of her for themselves.

Christoph <- needs to give the issue of an infrastructure dynamic
enough (and free enough from NDAs and access restrictions) to allow
remote collaboration some serious thought.
