A super long article that talks about all the people doing magnetic 
implant stuff now, in particular a group in Pittsburgh, called 
grindhouse wetware:

Their "bottlenose" stuff is interesting, the are using external 
induction fields to pass data to the implants from other sensors, like 
ultrasound rangers.  Very similar to the work that Kevin Warwick and his 
students are doing, but DIY :-)
