[Hackability] Activism and legislation - the right to have repair manuals for our stuff!

This is pretty interesting -- apparently there is legislation and activism
around something called WEEE, in the UK, centered around the right or
responsibility to fix stuff:

I need to look into this a bit deeper , but I"m getting the idea that
activists in the U.S. are interested in something similar here. But with
more exploration of the idea that people with disabilities have a right and
a need to have the information necessary to maintain and repair the
access/mobility/aac equipment they own. There could be pressure brought
to bear on companies that manufacture our stuff, to make that information
available either to the buyers or to the general public.

Anyway, just a thought, and it will bear more discussion and
investigation. I am going to talk to people at iFixit and the EFF about
it. What do you all think? I could see this being a good rallying point
to fight under.
