The initial tests were done in a darkened room with no external interference, sound or otherwise. The light pipes are optically isolated from the photic stimulation setup to prevent any EMI influence with the EEG electrodes, for that very reason.

I'd also recommend a test where the light source is placed in the ear
and activated, but with a cover in place to block all light, to make
sure that the observed effect is not electronic interference.
