[Noisebridge-discuss] free old laptop does not turn on

Pull the battery out and try booting it just with wall power. Sometimes 
Macs get confused inside their brains, and they remember strange things 
as long as the battery is in.

Also, if it is that old, it may have a wifi card installed underneath 
its keyboard. Pull up the keyboard, and re-seat the wifi card. Macs 
won't boot if the card is loose.
