[Noisebridge-discuss] membership team meeting (trying this again)

Non-members are welcome to come and participate in discussions. We're
not going to turn away any intelligent ideas...

The issue at hand, specifically, was this consensus item about kicking
people out. Its recommendations are detailed here:
https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Membership_Team#Kicking_people_out

The number one problem was the proposal for immediate consensus, when
our rule has been to propose items for consensus and then have the
consensus vote a week later. The membership committee thought that a
process that took a week (at least) to ban someone would be excessive,
especially when the procedure was being put together for people who
egregiously broke our rules.
There was further criticism on the "wall of shame" proposal and the
overall enforcement of the ban as I recall. We also failed to come up
with a clear and precise sentence/paragraph, which caused confusion on
what was being proposed.
And lastly, what scuttled the consensus, was that suddenly everybody
seemed to have their own idea of how things should be done. This is
in large part why another membership meeting was called, yet oddly no
one showed up except a handful of people from the original meeting.

So indeed, I will be there, and I encourage all those who have ideas
or otherwise strong opinions to attend.

It is unfortunate that a procedure is needed for this, but based on
what I've heard from people's experiences in other groups, it is vital
to have something in advance (especially as we work on a system in
which new rules to handle this could be blocked by the offending
member).
Also note that no incident has occurred at noisebridge to date that
would warrant the proposed banning process -- no one is suggesting
that we simply throw someone out due to a disagreement or dislike of
someone.
