Hi Jason,

The notation / is pronounced "mod" and in both cases of your example
it refers to taking a quotient ring, which you can read about here:

The notation of [T] refers to creating a polynomial ring by throwing
in a new element T (so, all the elements of the new ring (Z/2Z)[T] are
polynomials where the coefficients are from (Z/2Z) and the variable is
T)
