It's not two computers, but just my laptop in dual-monitor mode. So I
don't think VNC would work here.


Another method I just thought of: if I can get a text editor (that's
not vim or emacs) to open the same file in two different windows, and
keep both windows updated, that would work.

Or for that matter, if I can get one to have a vertical split screen
on the same file, I can make it two screens wide, which also would
work just fine.

I tried fooling TextMate into opening the same file twice (with a
symlink), but its sync behavior in that situation is kinda weird...
only autosyncs the first character of a line. Requires unfocus/refocus
to sync the rest, which would mean I have to type blind and then click
around to see anything... not good. It doesn't support split window
mode.

JEdit does do vertical split, so is the current best solution.
However, it's kinda unwieldy here, since it's really more intended to
be for coding than for text display / edit per se - e.g. it has no
ability to do rich text, easy font scaling, etc.

Surely there are non-IDE-type text editors that do vertical splitting?
