I'm not offended, but if you should desire to do so, I have a little
howto on improving your keyboard access at
http://canonical.org/~kragen/setting-up-keyboard.html and am
collaborating with someone else on a better .XCompose file at
http://github.com/kragen/xcompose.

I do have one little problem with it, though. Does anyone know why KDE
resets my keyboard mapping at apparently random times? It seems to
happen every time my USB keyboard gets plugged and unplugged. Maybe the
other times are because the keyboard has crashed and rebooted? I guess
I can check dmesg. Is there a canonical place to put a .Xmodmap file or
some equivalent for a modern desktop environment, so that it will work
reliably?

(Also I have noticed that inside `gdmflexiserver --xnest`, the keyboard
works fine in a twm session but not if I run GNOME or KDE inside of the
Xnest. Anyone know what's up with that? I run Skype inside an Xnest so
it doesn't have access to my user account.)

Kragen
