Folks,

I went down south to Fremont yesterday to the SchmartBoard
headquarters, to pick up some of their QFP SchmartBoards, for
prototyping (see http://schmartboard.com/index.asp?page=products for
more info, their stuff is awesome) and wound up telling him about
noisebridge. He offered to set us up with a 20% discount on
Schmartboards. Essentially they make hand-solderable proto boards for
most common SMT components, including up to 400-pin BGA chips. I told
him NoiseBridge would be at Maker Faire, and while he won't have a
booth there, he said he would be there out of personal interest. I
can't pimp his boards enough, they absolutely rock. I have used this
guy a few times to solder some 0.5mm pitch 208-pin ColdFire CPUs for
proto-work ( http://schmartboard.com/index.asp?
page=products_qfp&id=116 ) and it makes hand-soldering something this
complex absolutely a joy. I was actually smiling to myself the whole
time I used one the first time.

But in classic Reading Rainbow style, don't take my word for it! *MIDI
keyboard sound effect here* See for yourself:

They have a bunch of demo videos up on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/user/nealgb

I highly recommend watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=E6WrzdgwyIw , which is 3.5 minutes long.

Cheers,
Alex Perez
