Perhaps it would be useful if new members could nominate a 
name/handle/email that they are happy to be referred to by in public in 
a NB context?  For those who don't care, it could be a real-world name, 
and for those with more stringent privacy requirements it would be their 
exclusive NB identifier (ie, the privacy issue only arises if that 
handle gets tied to some other ID from another world).
