[Noisebridge-discuss] Need a locksmith, VW mechanic and/or advice

I just bought a car, which is awesome. What is not awesome is that it
has a fancy computerized key that will cost me like $250 to get from a
dealership. Especially frustrating is that since it's a used car, it
only came with one key - which we suspect is actually a valet key, as
it does not open the hatchback. It also did not come with the remote
entry dongle.

I can buy blank keys online for $30, but to get it to work in the car,
it needs two things. First, it needs to be cut much like a regular
key. Then it needs to be hooked up to a specialized piece of equipment
that uplinks directly to some VW secure server to get the proper code
for my car.

Do we have any community knowledge about these things? Do any of you
know a locksmith who might be able to help, or a VW dealer or
mechanic? Advice?
