Subject: [Wear-Hard] Hackerspaces?
To: Wearable Hardware Discussion List <wear-hard at haven.org>

This list hasn't been very active lately, but I'm sure people are still
subscribed :).

Some new friends and I started a hackerspace (http://hackerspaces.org) in
North Orlando, Florida, and so far it's been tons of fun. We did our first
telepresence webcam conference thing today. I'm hoping somebody from another
space responds to my email and we can make a big Telepresence Wall
connecting our hackerspaces.

I've fixed my HeadPlay, and mounted the board of cheap logitech cam to the
front securely, used it in the space for a while. It's nice to have a place
where people won't judge you so readily for playing with technology like
this.

The major, major plus to all of you guys out there in custom hardware land
is that the joint-purchasing power of an organization like a hackerspace is
likely to provide either a really cool laser etcher/cutter, CNC mills,
and/or 3d plastic printing repraps. Bre Pettis has leased and started the
BotCave in New York City, where they will definitely work on the RepRap
model of rapid prototyping machines.

If any of you are around Orlando, our space is at 540 N SR434, Altamonte
Springs, FL

http://familab.org/ check us out!
(And if you're not around Orlando Florida, start your own hackerspace! do
it!)
