[Noisebridge-discuss] Police Academy workshop at Noisebridge

Hey,

I got approached last night by one of San Francisco's Finest with a really
interesting proposition.

Because the city and state have been dealing with significant budget cuts
(even with the stimulus package), the local SFPD cannot afford their lease
on their training facility. Several police officers have been watching
Noisebridge's relentless reachout to the community in general, and want to
help.

They are interested in setting up a weekly workshop where their rookie
officers can learn the basics of San Francisco city law, idiosyncrasies of
the different districts within the city, and proper taser etiquette. In
exchange, not only is one of their senior officers willing to teach a class
on civilian rights, but they will offer Noisebridge members discounts on any
tickets they receive while using public transit or hosting events.

I know there has been some concern about things like this in the past, so I
want to emphasize that this is not a sponsorship of any kind. If an
individual member wishes to participate and help out with the general
community, that rocks.

We're still figuring out exact details and possibly working out an
arrangement with one of the local donut shops, so I'll keep everyone posted
on what develops.
