no, no, he wants to visit places like noisebridge. i would suggest:

shipyard
box shop
nimby
scrap
techshop
american steel
megashear ranch
crucible

you might also be interested in visiting some of the physical computing 
or mechanical sculpture classes at places like CCA or SFSU.

i'm sure others can suggest more places of this sort.

there is also an interesting movie i think saturday night. i'll see if i 
can dig it out.
