[Noisebridge-discuss] Where to get wire for a tesla coil secondary?

A lot of the copper stuff seems to have disappeared from the usual
places. Betcha when metal prices were so high a year or two ago the
surplus places realized they could get more for it by melting it down
than by selling it.. (This is why crackheads were kicking apart
discarded TV & computer monitors: they could get $1.50 for the copper
in the focusing coils)

I'm guessing you need copper magnet wire (with the clear enamel
insulation)? Can you use other kinds? Do you need a particular
unbroken length or can you connect shorter spools?

Some shorter spools from here: http://www.sciplus.com/category.cfm/category/150

Skycraft has a good selection (but not too much in the way of magnet
wire) http://skycraftsurplus.com/wire.aspx

I've seen spools at some of the surplus places down in South Bay
(Excess Solutions) but that was a few years ago...
