Not being in the space, I don't know the magnitude of the issue, but 
there are some decent acute mental health resources in the city.  Check 
out http://www.namisf.org/crisis-serv.html.

I wouldn't be put off by the term 'crisis'. In order to receive acute 
care (as opposed to long-term), potential patients must first be 
evaluated by crisis-oriented personnel.
