Ben Rupert is a chemist as well.

I have generally imagined that the darkroom will be used for minor
chemistry since it's well-ventilated (though not hooded) and plumbed
and such. Patrick, it might behoove you to get on the darkroom mailing
list. We've done some chemistry-ish stuff to date.
