I just spent the afternoon with an amazing guy, Donald Goring, who's
been a sailmaker for 50 years. He has to move out of his workshop in
Alameda and sell his stuff. He's got 2 weeks to do this.

It's a big messy loft full of odds and ends, bits of electronics for
boat navigation and so on, giant rolls of sail fabric of all sorts,
canvas and many kinds of nylon, sewing machines, stuff like old
typewriters he got from one of his lovers who was a librarian, tools,
and more boat stuff that I could name. Piles of nautical charts,
beautifully drafted designs for boats and sails, water tanks, a portable
stove...

Buy his stuff!!

He also seems happy to give lessons in sewing or sailing.

Here's a list of the things left in the workshop

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/boa/1554202580.html

Go and see him -- bring a bottle of wine and hang out for his great
stories of being raised a Holy Roller, escaping, joining the Coast Guard
with forged papers and then the US Geological Survey in Alaska, and his
theories about philosophy, sex, race, sails, pulleys, cripples, women,
social class, religion, life, the universe, and everything.

Here's the text of the ad in case it goes away.
