[Noisebridge-discuss] Noisekitchen - Looking for a plumber to do some quick work

(in the spirit of trying to be helpful without having to
put on my clothes: )

it might be acceptable to pipe in the water and put a
bucket under the sinks as a temporary measure.

putting in drain pipes should consider all pipes needed
so's to be sure we don't do things that have later to be
undone or that imply more work than if things were planned
completely before working.

the biggest soil pipe comes from the toilets. beneath each
toilet is a (in this case) four inch soil pipe that presents
a J or U trap and then runs at at least a slight slope to the
stack.
assuming that's correct, is it possible to tie into the
existing toilet's drainage and vent pipes?

seems to me that cutting into the stack pipe itself, if
that's what has to happen, requires cutting out a section of
the stack that is the size of a Y fitting to be inserted, raise
the upper portion of the stack pipe, insert the Y section,
lower the upper section of the stack pipe onto the top of the
Y section.

there are a couple of issues: joining and venting.

whatever the joining, it has to accommodate the weight of
the pipe above the joint (13 pounds per linear foot).
can we use a completely hubless Y? if so, good: use a
no-hub coupling.
if not, we have to stuff oakum (that waxy stuff and some
lead wool around the cup and blast the lead wool with a torch
until the lead is melted.
the ratio of oakum to lead changes, i think, with respect to
the weight of pipe supported (13 * length above).

how to vent? probably a two inch pipe that comes off the run
between the toilet and the Y and raises up and over to some
other vent pipe that's conveniently nearby, yes?

and there's the problem of all the other drain pipes that
must connect to the drainage and the vent pipes. needs
planning before any cutting?

also, cutting pipes probably requires a pipe cutter so's to
get a level butt (sawzall probably a bad idea, yes?).
