although I do have a quecat, 1d and 2d bardcodes can just as easily be
aquired optically.

although yes there are plenty of other apps that could do this...

I had a thought that 2d barcodes with urls embedded in them could be
used so that any platform with 2d barcode reading could update an online
database. seemed really simple, serves up the page for that object and
you just update the state on the webpage, no api support required.
