At a previous employer, flash memory card manufacturers that changed the
specs and or firmware revisions without warning caused considerable
pain, the oem side of simpletech, now stec was the supplier who offered
 (and continues to as far as I know) the level of assurance necessary to
support that business. Of course industrial products with 10 year
service lives are bit less price sensitive than consumer eletronics.

But yeah, you can't just farm some supply chain activity out to a
supplier and assume they won't cheat given the opportunity until they've
proven otherwise.
