Several responses have commented on a class where payment was "required".
But that's not what Michael asked about. He asked... well, take a look at
the first 3 lines of this email.

I can't remember the last time I was at a party or fundraiser where the beer
had a fixed price. Instead, it was by "suggested donation". This has proved
to be a great way to fund all manner of projects while having fun at the
same time. I think there is definitely a place at NB for having free events
sitting next to suggested donation events.

Likewise, I'd say it's be appropriate if suggested donation events made
donations to NB. It's the excellent thing to do all around.
