This sounds like something you may want to share with the people
running http://www.speakertext.com . They are already using Mechanical
Turk to do the transcription of YouTube videos. They also have a
limited story around allowing people to clean up incorrect
transcripts. The embedding is quite nice.

Your suggestion is a bit more work than what they have now but should
be doable. Of course it'd be a great summer of code project as you
say, as well.

Speaking of transcription, does anyone know of a good low-latency
transcription service besides https://www.sprintcaptel.com/index.asp
or Hamilton WebCapTel ? As in, one with a decent API?
