If it works like mifare, you need a key to read the data -- the chip
on the card authenticates it, and each block of data can have a
different key.
Enter the wrong key, and it refuses the request. These cards are
likely very different from mifare, but the authentication may be
similar. I would be surprised if you could read anything without the
key though..
