That's an interesting claim!  How do you know?

Merely not having noticed anything odd happening is hardly proof.

I harden my machines and am pretty darn careful, and AFAIK I've never
been owned beyond getting pranked by stepping away from the keyboard
while a friend's sitting at the same desk, but I'd hardly claim that I'm
100% sure I've never been 0dayed.  I've certainly had servers I
coadminned get owned by eastern europeans for spam purposes (and I
thought those were pretty secure too).

Yeah, they sure do!  We're learning, slowly and uncertainly, I think.
But we're still a long ways from computing nirvana...
