This isn't all that strange. This is the notion of a "directed donation" (in 
which the donor chooses the donation's purpose) or "shepherded donation" (in 
which the donor requests that the use of the donation be supervised). It would 
be helpful if provenance in the form of an email or letter from the donor could 
be confidentially forwarded to the treasurer, or comptroller, of Noisebridge for 
legal as well as tax purposes.
