Here's a good rundown of Bed Bugs. There are methods for identification of
an infestation, but until such an ID, there is no guarantee of bed bugs.
Especially since everyone reacts differently to the bites. Might be
fleas...and spider bites tend to look similar on me.

Luckily, Christie's method will kill anything it comes into contact with.
But that's the key word-- CONTACT. If bed bugs are in the middle of the
couch-- they will probably just get a few degrees toasty, which is also
probably going to be ideal for them as it is quite cold at NB...

It's a possibility that furniture will need to be dismantled and
floor/wall/molding cracks sealed up.

It sounds very likely that it COULD be bed bugs, given their ninja survival
skills; the amount of traffic at NB would surely supply a mama BB and her
nest if that were the case-- but even so, there aren't a whole lot of
soft/cloth/dark/shady cracks/crevices/couches/etc where people rest unawares
for more than 5 minutes at a time at night, without noticing if something
were trying to crawl on them/infest them.
