In the MagLev reply I made early, I mentioned this section of
alibaba.combecause I noticed the solar dynamos stated they use MagLev
technology.

you live in a constantly windy area, you could use these as a solution for
about the same price you can set up solar panels (usually, unless you find a
great source this wold likely be cheaper). The electricity would need to be
inverted and then stored in a battery bank and cheap solution for
consumer-grade batteries for the bank would be nice to have but not
something to use every day. You could probably pull 550W for 75 hours out of
an array of 10 $100 12V batteries and for any solution that powers your
whole house you'd want a bigger, better industrial-grade battery bank.
Anyhow, energy would be able to be stored from solar and this. I imagine
that in a windy and sunny area, a complete off-the-grid power setup with all
the niceties of being on the power grid using 5KW of electricity could cost
a pretty penny. I thought I'd share that because home powering technologies
have been a small obsession of mine for awhile. :) I'd guess $10,000 to
$15,000 for the batteries, another $20,000 for the wind turbines, yet
another $20,000 for a 6000W total solar panel array system and $1,000 to
$2,000 for inverters and $3,000 budgeted (thought probably less) for each
2000W of diesel generator power. If you had the sun, wind and backup
generators you could have that dream home out in the middle of nowhere.

And apparently for $8,000 or so you can get a 40KW generator, too, lol.

If you cut your costs and limited your energy consumption to less than 4KW
most of the time, you could most likely get a complete solution including
diesel backup generators (though probably not backups for those :P) for
under $35,000.

I also noticed biogas digester / biogas plants.

That's pretty nifty too.

Some good info on solar battery banks:

I just love power.
